Hello and welcome to the new website of Liverpool photographer Mark McNulty. Or should I say, Liverpool based photographer, as my work has been commissioned both nationally and internationally as well as within Liverpool itself. I started off working for music magazines and spent a lot of time working between London and Liverpool but now I mostly work within the city for a variety of clients on retail, fashion, music, advertising and editorial commissions. And with Liverpool being the 2008 European Capital of Culture, I am also documenting the city for a variety of editorial and commercial clients. A lot of the work I photograph this year will also be used as part of a photographic project that sees a team of 6 photographers documenting Liverpool every day in 2008. The results will be published next year in a book to be called 0151 366 2008, though you can view the current state of play by checking out the website in the links section. This year also sees the publication of my second book which is to be called ‘Pop Cultured : The Music Photography of Mark McNulty’ and that’s due to come out in September on University Press. A preview of this book as well as some images from my previous book ‘Rocketships & Windmills’ can be seen in the projects section.

This new site brings together all of my work including my day to day commercial work, my fashion and music portfolios, my travel library, images of Liverpool for sale as prints or for commercial licensing, a small selection from my expansive archive and some of my personal work and projects both completed and unfinished.

The following images are recent images and photographs relating to exhibitions and recent published work etc.

Different from the flyers that's out there advertising my current exhibitions, this is the cover of Pop Cultured the book. The book is out on University Press at then end of September and there will be an exhibition and an event at the time of the launch. The event will be in two venues including Carling Academy. More details soon!

Elvis Costello photographed backstage at The Phil where he was performing with The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra in a show that encompassed both new material with reworked classics.

Stella McCartney recently hosted a fashion show at LIPA, on the same day that her dad was playing Liverpool Sound, and I got asked to do the official photographs of the event. And if the show looks a little chaotic then that's because it was all based on a game of musical chairs. There are more photographs of the event on the blog.

Art In The Age Of The Steam Train is the latest exhibition at the Walker and one of their highlights of the Capital of Culture. Former trainspotter Michael Palin came to Liverpool to launch the exhibition and is seen chatting here to Dr.David Fleming, director of Liverpool Museums.

Ken Dodd photographed, in the concert room of St.George's Hall, for the project 0151 366 2008. The project features 6 photographers who are out photographing every day of the year in Liverpool, and it's surrounding areas, in it's year as European Capital Of Culture. My contributions have included portraits, events, city views and one or two random moments in a fast changing city. Feel free to get in touch with any ideas of events or people that you think should be included in this project.

The Bluecoat has recently reopened after a massive facelift and one of the first events of it's 2008 calendar was a performance by Yoko Ono.

It's only 4 months in but the Viennese Balls at St.George's Hall is already a highlight. This was commissioned by the Liverpool Phil as the orchestra provided the music, conducted by Vasily Petrenko.
